Background

The Centre for Medical and Healthcare Education operates under the Faculty of Medicine and is governed under the deanery of education. The Associate Dean (Education) oversees the governance of the Centre and steers its direction, while the Centre is under the direct leadership of two Co-Directors nominated by the Dean to oversee its operation. The Centre plays a role in promoting education research and excellence, and serves as a hub that fosters the collaboration between medical and health professionals, educators, researchers, and students to innovate and contribute to advancing medical and healthcare education. The Centre also serves as a platform for sharing and discussing challenges and opportunities in the face of new education trends and technological advancement.

The Centre has a team of professionals who are experts or experienced in medical and healthcare education from departments to lead education initiatives that are arranged in specific themes of research and innovations. Along with its main role of acting as a hub for education research and innovation, the Centre recruits administrative and research staff to coordinate faculty development programmes, collect learner analytics and conduct data analysis, and consolidate information such as funding opportunities and funding records of educational projects. The Centre also provides an academic home for faculty members who want to focus on educational scholarship and develop as future medical and healthcare educationists or scholars.


CMHE will serve the following objectives:

  • To foster research and innovation in medicine, healthcare and medical sciences education.
  • To facilitate interprofessional collaboration between medical and healthcare professionals, medical educators, researchers, and students by building a research environment.
  • To promote the adoption and development of innovative pedagogies and technologies for teaching and learning.

Key Deliverables

Faculty Development Programs

Implement comprehensive faculty development programs that focus on the latest medical pedagogies. These programs should include innovative teaching methods such as team-based learning and interprofessional education, as well as modern assessment techniques. Additionally, integrate the use of artificial intelligence to enhance the delivery of medical curricula.

Curriculum Innovation and Quality Assurance

Lead curriculum evaluation and continuous improvement by integrating the latest developments in medical education, addressing societal needs, and establishing robust quality assurance mechanisms.

Grant Acquisition

Actively pursue and secure education-related grants to support innovative projects and research in medical education. This includes identifying potential funding sources and preparing competitive grant applications.

Research Dissemination

Promote and disseminate medical education research through participation in regional and international conferences. Encourage publication in reputable journals to share findings and advancements in medical education research with the broader community.

Reputation and Partnerships

Strengthen the branding and visibility of CUHK’s medical education. Foster strategic partnerships and international collaborations to enhance the global reach and academic influence.
